[A/N - onwards!]
Somehow Evan made it through the afternoon classes, then afternoon practice, then tutoring after that. By the time he stumbled out of school, he was a sleep deprived wreck. His phone buzzed as he made it out into the courtyard.
@keisasaki - u done? otside rn
Evan almost cried with relief, pivoting to the carpark.
He'd told Ethan he'd catch the bus, so his brother wouldn't be waiting around for him.
Quickly, Evan found Kei's car, noticing the dim light of him scrolling through his phone through the window. God he'd missed having him alone.
How long had he waited here for?
Gently, he knocked on the window. Kei startled slightly, then looked up and a smile broke onto his face.
The door unlocked, and Evan tumbled into the car in a disgruntled, tired pile of limbs.
"I'm going to fucking collapse," Evan groaned.
Kei laughed gently, "Evan you should stop doing so much tutoring, you know that right, it's almost eleven right now, too late to be still at school."
He massaged his face in his hands. "I know," he mumbled.
"But you aren't going to do anything about it?" Kei said.
"No," Evan sighed. He felt weirdly stubborn about it. He had absolutely no time to be doing volleyball, and tutoring, but— he was going to do both anyways. It was the one semblance of normality he felt like he had to hold onto.
"C'mere," Kei grabbed his hand and tugged slightly. Evan grumbled his tired complaints into the crook of Kei's neck as the boy pulled him into a hug.
"Oh god," he realised what had happened with Riley, "We need to be less obvious."
"Eh?" Kei said, "Really?"
Evan nodded into Kei's shoulder. "Rileys on a mission to get us together."
Kei paused, "A-aren't we?"
Evan suddenly pulled back, "Are we?" The crashing realisation that they had never actually... Talked about what this was between them hit him all at once.
Kei blinked, looking sheepish, "Um, I hope so, I— would like so, if you would also—"
Evan cut him off by kissing him, and Kei's hands gripped onto his shirt, smiling into the kiss. It still felt unreal, like a delusion of desperation cooked up by his brain.
Hurriedly realising what he was saying, he pulled back.
"I mean," Evan started again, slightly breathless, "Riley thinks that we aren't a thing at all yet, and she's trying to get us together, she's spent all day telling me that you're staring at me," Evan accused.
Kei blinked, "Well, I mean, was I?"
"Yes—" Evan cried, "Frequently Kei, so much so that Riley has become very Riley about the whole thing, she's not giving up."
Kei shrugged, "You could tell her you know?"
Evan groaned, "I feel like that'd be worse?"
Kei looked amused, "Would it though?"
"Secret remember," Evan uttered, nodding between them. "Riley is shit at keeping secrets, really, I love her but she's awful."
Kei nodded, "I can sort of imagine that yeah."
"Anyways, it's fine, sorry, just tired as fuck—"
Kei didn't let go of his hand. "You wanna sleep at mine?"
