Kei lay with his head on Evans lap, and Gus sleeping on his chest. They had some football anime Kei liked playing on the tv in the background.

It had taken the entirety of the afternoon and into the night for Kei to unwind his honestly impressive breakdown. After Evan's attempt at pulling a Willow, they'd realised that Kei's anger was basically anxiety in a different font.

So hey, if there was anything Evan was a master at, it was anxiety.

At least he had actually been able to help a bit.

He dragged a gentle hand through Kei's hair, and Kei sighed, leaning into it. Outside, the sky was darkening, and Kei's purple lamp flicked on, bathing them in a gentle glow.

"I wish I hadn't over reacted like that," he mumbled, "He definitely knows now."

Evan shook his head, "Not like he can prove it, the team knows to never take him seriously."

"I know but," Kei faltered, "It just means now— I have to either lie, or tell them all," he sighed, "I don't want to do either yet."

It was a shitty situation. Fuck Dan for putting them in it. Shit— he wanted to punch him again, but he reigned it in, focussing on carding his hands through Kei's hair, calming himself down as well as Kei.

"Why not do what we said?" Evan uttered, "Tell just a few."

Slowly, Kei nodded. "Mhm, o-okay."

"If the people you care about know, then he doesn't have any ammunition does he?" Evan uttered, twirling a strand of Kei's hair in his fingers.

Kei let out a tiny huff of laughter, "That was very wise of you."

Evan snorted, "Again, that's how you know everythings gone to shit. Me? Wise?"

Kei actually managed a full laugh then, shaking Gus as his chest moved. The cat woke and looked up accusingly, and Kei patted him apologetically.

"Sorry bud."

Gus meowed and plonked his head back down, huffing dramatically as he closed his eyes again.

Kei groaned, his train of thought seeming to fall right back into what had happened.

"I can't believe I let him get to me like that," Kei mumbled, "Seriously, what was I thinking?"

Evan shrugged, "Yeah, it sucks."

"How do you deal with it?" Kei sighed, "Even thinking about him makes me mad."

"I don't deal with it Kei," Evan snorted, "Remember the meltdowns, the chronic anxiety, it's just Dan— honestly, he only bothered me when I felt like shit about myself." He shrugged, "Now that I have you, Willow, Ethan, it doesn't hit as hard you know?"

Kei tipped his head back in Evans lap, staring in wonder up at him.

"You're very cool sometimes," he murmured.

Evan smiled, leaning down to press a kiss to Kei's lips. After a second, he pulled back slightly, grinning, "So are you."

Kei smiled wide, "Idiot," he laughed.

"Look at us, a pair of idiots with issues," Evan snorted, then he shrugged dramatically, "But hey, at least we're cool while doing it."

Kei let out a bark of laughter, jolting Gus awake.
