Raven's POV
I squeezed my tennis racket tighter as I looked outside the backseat window.
All I could think about was how Sophie had her arm wrapped around Cassian's arm.
And he's so annoyingly sweet that he just let her do whatever she wanted.
It was driving me crazy.
Chloe giggled loudly beside me.
"Raven!" She laughed. "You have to check the group chat!"
"I'd rather not," I mumbled, but she showed me anyway.
It was a selfie of Sophie and Cassian, their faces close, her arm draped around his shoulder.
"They're so adorable together," she smiled in awe at the photo.
I stared at the photo, the back of my neck growing hot.
Sophie had that perfect little smile, but Cassian didn't smile much—he barely looked at the camera.
However, he still managed to look so perfect.
He still managed to make my brain release dopamine just by his photo.
He still managed to make my heart beat so fast and make me feel so warm inside.
My chest tightened when I realized I had been staring at him for too long. "Yeah. Adorable."
Chloe tilted her head. "Wow, I'm glad you tried your hardest to sound like you care."
"Sorry that I don't have time to focus on Sophie and Cassian's little ice cream date when I have my own shit to deal with," I snapped at her.
"Raven, you know we couldn't practice anymore," she said. "You literally collapsed."
"I told you I was fine," I glared at her.
"You're going to burn yourself out," she said and I frustratedly ran my hand through my hair.
"My dad went to Harvard with the head coach," she said. "He talked to him and said that the scout will be lenient with you if you can impress him."
"He knows you're not a pro and he isn't looking for that," she said. "All he wants to see is natural talent."
"Do you really think I can do it?" I asked her. "Don't lie."
She nodded. "If anyone can, it's you."
I smiled before we hugged.
The car slowed to a stop and I raised my eye when I saw a black SUV parked in front of my house.
"Thanks for the ride," I told her.
"Remember to sleep," she said as she handed me my water bottle. "And stay hydrated."
I rolled my eyes with a smile. "I will, mom."
