Raven's POV

"Let me know if you need anything," Ms. Lee ended and I nodded before she left the auditorium.

Everyone had left by now—except for him.

He was still seated on his chair, patiently waiting for my conversation to end.

He got up and made his way over to me on the stage.

"Why did you do that?" I asked him worriedly. "You could have gotten in trouble."

"What was I supposed to do?" He asked. "Just sit there and let you say lies about yourself?"

"It wasn't a lie," I told him, looking down. "The speech didn't just apply to school."

"Like last night, for example," I sighed. "I was trying to impress you and I totally made a fool out of myself."

"No, you didn't," He said annoyed before his tone calmed down. "You didn't."

"There's not a part of you that I don't find attractive," he said. "And that lingerie you had on last night..."

He shook his head. "It drives me crazy whenever I think about it."

I looked up at him. "I saw your face, Cassian."

"It had nothing to do with you," he promised. "It was me."

I felt so confused.

"I'll tell you about it when I'm ready, okay?" He said. "But nothing was ever your fault."

I nodded, trying to support whatever he was going through.

"Thanks for standing up for me," I said, closing the space between us.

I didn't stop until my chest was pressed against his.

His heart was racing.

"You're nervous," I stated and he looked around.

"What if someone sees us, Raven?"

"So what?" I asked. "We're not doing anything."

My eyes dropped to his pink, soft lips. "Though I want to kiss you right now."

"We'll get caught," he said, his worried expression turning me on a little bit.

I leaned closer and stopped when I was a few inches away from his lips.

"We don't have to if you don't want to," I told him.

His breath hitched, and his eyes flickered down to my lips, then quickly back up to meet mine.

"I-I didn't say I didn't want to," he murmured.

I smiled softly, my heart racing now too. "Then what's stopping you?"

He hesitated, his hands fidgeting nervously at his side. "I just...I mean...people."

His vulnerability made my chest ache in the best way possible.
