Raven's POV

I filled our glasses with fruit punch while Ryan and Selene kept awkwardly bumping into one another in the kitchen.

I rolled my eyes out of annoyance before sitting down.

They wanted to start having dinner as a "family".

I agreed, but things just felt so awkward.

Selene came and sat next to me with a small smile before Ryan brought our plates before grabbing his.

What I dreaded the most was the food.

"Take a bit," Selene nudged at me and I sighed before staring at the lasagna.

I closed my mouth and forced the fork with the lasagna into my mouth.

When the taste registered, I quickly opened my mouth.

"Who cooked this?" I snapped my head to Ryan.

He scratched his head. "Uh, your mom and I made it together."

"What?" Selene asked worriedly. "Is it bad?"

"I told you Raven only likes when I cook," Ryan argued.

I shook my head. "No, it's good."

I took another bite, falling in love with my dinner.

"How has school been?" Ryan asked and I sighed.

"It's okay," I said. "My Latin teacher has been giving me trouble, but it's nothing I can't handle."

He nodded. "And tennis?"

I tightened my grip around my fork before shoving it into my mouth.

I know he doesn't expect me to go to some fancy college, but I wanted to impress him still.

Now, there's no way I'll get into any college now—especially Harvard.

"Raven?" my brother-I mean dad called me.

"My partner can't come to the match, so I'm basically done for," I sighed.

"What?" He asked. "Doesn't she need to get recruited too?"

I shook my head.

"Her dad's the mayor," I explained. "She basically got into Harvard the day she was born."

"Don't say that, Raven," Selene said.

"It's true," I told them. "Everyone at that school has already gotten into an Ivy League."

"Well, if you do get in," Ryan started. "You know that your hard work got you in, and not your parents' occupation or wealth."

"And if you don't win your match," Selene added. "We'll play dirty like the other parents and buy your way in."
