Raven's POV

"Aren't you going to talk to her?" Emma asked as she looked back at Chloe and Abigail setting up to play their match.

"No," I said, rushing to get everything in my bag.

"Raven, I think she misses you," she said. "She was secretly watching us play."

I paused for a second before putting my bag on my shoulder.

"The less people talk to me, the better," I said before rushing out.

I felt like I was going insane.

Why did I leave the door open that night?

Why couldn't I have just gotten up and locked it?

If I did, Sophie wouldn't have had video evidence to hold over me.

I could still be friends with Chloe.

I could still be with him.

I tapped my head aggressively as tried to make the thoughts go away.

However, they wouldn't.

Because I screw everything up.

My breathing grew uneven as the thoughts spiralled, looping over and over like a cruel, inescapable nightmare that made me want to-

I harshly crashed into someone and they immediately gripped my waist, steadying me.

I stiffened.

I know this feeling too well.

The warmth of this person's hands, the firm and careful grip on my waist.

The clean, familiar sweet scent.

The steady rise and fall, the firm, unmistakable strength beneath my fingertips.

I had memorized this feeling during our nightly cuddles.

My fingers curled slightly against the fabric of his shirt, and for a split second, I let myself remember what it felt like to be close to him.

And he...he just let me.

My eyes began to burn.

I never realized how much I missed this feeling until now.

Until I was actually close to him.

Until I was touching him.

Slowly, I backed away and lifted my gaze.

The first thing my eyes landed on were his new glasses.

They were so different from the ones I had chosen for him.

Shaper edges, a colder black frame—almost like they were meant to make him look untouchable.

Distant.

But I still knew those green eyes behind them.

The same ones that used to soften when he looked at me.
