Cassian's POV
When I said I wanted Raven to be my first everything, I forgot that included my first heartbreak.
I just can't believe her.
I knew that she was selfish and cold, but I didn't expect her to be like this.
"Are you going to eat or let your food continue to get cold?" Dad asked, annoyed.
"Yes, Cass," my mom said. "Eat."
I ignored them as I adjusted my glasses.
"And stop wearing those ridiculous glasses and put in the contacts I bought you," he said. "You'll look less like a cunt and more like my son."
I clenched my jaw, adjusting my glasses again just to spite him. "No."
He paused before looking at me. "What did you just say to me?"
"I said no!" I stood up with a glare. "I like my glasses."
I pushed away my plate without taking a bite. "And I'm not hungry!"
"Cassian, sit down right now," he glared at me.
"No!" I rebelled. "I'm sick of this."
"I'm sick of obediently doing everything you ask me to do!"
"I don't want to go to your stupid meeting tomorrow, I don't want to meet with Senator Well's daughter, and most importantly..."
"I don't want to be a fucking politician!" I shouted out loud and the room fell in silence.
I took a step back, not believing the words that just felt my mouth.
Dad's expression darkened, his grip tightening around the glass in his hand.
Mom's lips parted slightly in shock. "Cass..."
My chest heaved as I struggled to catch my breath.
Not only had I cursed, but I admitted what I'd been holding back for the past couple of months.
It's too late to stop now.
"I want to be a doctor," I said. "I don't want to go to law school after school. I want to go to med school."
"I want to be an ophthalmologist," I said. "I want to deal with people like me. I want to tell them that there's nothing wrong with being different."
"Because I might be different, but there's nothing wrong with that," I said clenching my fists.
My father instantly got up with a glare on his face before my mom anchored him.
"Get the hell out of my face!" He angrily shouted from the top of his lungs and I felt...relieved.
I turned around, finally letting out the smile I was holding in as I walked to my room.
I had finally said what I wanted to say.
